"Valiant," while being original in many areas, seems to have a
feeling of other Disney movies, most notably, "The Rescuers."
Although the movie does feel, in some areas, like you've seen it before,
it stays original most of the time and doesn't stray from the plot.
During World War II, a small pigeon named Valiant decides to join the Royal Homing Pigeon Service and fly important messages in the war. After a hard training program, Valiant and a few other birds are given a very important mission: Fly to Europe and receive a very important message, and come back with it, while avoiding the evil falcons.
"Valiant" was a good movie, but not great. Much of the humor, 50 percent of it at least, was gross humor, and forced at that. There were a couple of clever lines thrown in there, but other than that, the attempts a humor were for the kids.
But even with that it mind, the animation was very good. The feathers on the birds were all distinct, and the attention to detail was very well done. The animation was not that of other recent CGI films, like "Shrek 2," "Shark Tale" or "Madagascar," but still very good.
I would say this movie would appeal to kids and their parents. It's definitely made for the kids, and parents will probably find it amusing to a certain level too.
I would recommend it to ages 6 or 7 and up. It was rated G, but there was still some violence and crude humor.
In short,
see it in theaters if you have a kid, otherwise, rent it when it comes out
on DVD. (August, 2005)
