Movie Review of "Sky High
98 minutes long
Walt Disney pictures
Rated PG

Sky HighHow would you feel if you went to a school for kids with superpowers, but didn't have any super powers yourself??? Scared, frightened, embarrassed? Well that's how Will Stronghold feels in Sky High, a new movie from Disney films. Michael Angarano plays Will and Kurt Russell plays Will's father, the Commander. Kelly Preston is the super fast flyer Jetstream, Will's mom. Will's parents are the most famous super heroes alive and that's a lot of pressure because people expect greatness from Will.

Will is sent to the superhero school as he begins 9th grade. New kids at Sky High have to go through a hero-sidekick power placement; you show the coach your powers and get labeled a hero or sidekick.

Will becomes a sidekick, making friends almost instantly with Magenta a girl who shapeshifts into a guinea pig, Zach who glows, Ethan who melts and Layla who controls plants. As you know every school has bullies. The bullies at this school are Speed and Lash, a super fast boy and a elastic boy. Then there is Gwen a techno path who is one of the key characters and her duplicating friend, Penny. And let's not forget Warren Peace a fire throwing kid who hates the Stronghold family. You may not think that certain powers are useful but they are. It was very funny to see all the super powers. Not every story has a conflict or problem but this one sure does. Several students at Sky High are standouts who aren't trying to be heroes, now are they? If you're not a hero, you're a villain, right?

What else would you expect from a school for super heroes?? Things like a principal that goes by the name of Principal Powers or a student body President by the name of Gwen??? There are also crazy bus rides with bus driver Ron Wilson. He drives off a bridge that is not finished and almost plummets everyone to their doom but the bus has built-in rocket jets. Not your ordinary bus, eh?

Sky High is a funny and entertaining movie for kids of about age 12 and under. One word of warning. Just make sure you don't take kids who try to do things they see in cartoons! (July, 2005)
