Pro Quarterback Paul Crewe has been retired from football for years, but
that doesn't mean he's forgotten about the game. After getting arrested
for stealing his girlfriend's car, Crewe is sent to a Texas prison.
The warden at the prison loves football, and has his guard's play every year. But his guards aren't doing well, so he has Crewe try to help him out. After giving the warden the idea of a pre-season practice game, Crewe is forced to find and coach a team of convicts to play the guards.
The guards at the prison are so ruthless that everyone wants a piece of them, and many convicts try for the team. Crewe finds that even the best players are horrible, so he recruits more players with his friend Caretaker and an older convict.
This movie was very, very funny. Like many Adam Sandler movies, I found myself laughing at least once every five minutes. Many other characters were funny in this movie.
I usually don't like movies about football, but this movie centered not so much around football, as laughs and characters. Of course, every scene involving football was very funny too.
I would recommend this movie for ages 12 or 13 and up. It had lots of language, crude and sexual humor, and a scene of drug use. There was also a lot of violence in the football scenes, though it was mostly comic violence.
So grab a football helmet and head to your local theater to see The Longest Yard. (June, 2005)
