Title: Where You Belong

This book was about a girl who is trying to find where she belongs in life.
When Fiona's family is evicted from their apartment, she leaves and goes to her dad's house. One night when he is in a drunken rage and she takes off frightened and disoriented. While fleeing from her father's unsettling behavior she meets up with an acquaintance from school. During the 1950's this friendship between Fiona, an Irish American and Yolanda, a black girl, is strongly discouraged. They, however, have no problem facing people. While gone from her parents Fiona finds where she really belongs.
This was a fantastic book and it had many good qualities. It was well written and had a good moral plot. However, I think it was too short and could have had a more conclusive ending. I would recommend this book to people because it is very realistic and helped me envision the characters and setting through its good use of descriptive language. I think 10-13 year old kids would enjoy this book.
If you liked this book you should also check this one out, Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. This story was also about a lasting friendship. (September, 2000)
